Combat centers on collecting weapons, conserving ammunition, and clearing rooms of hostile soldiers with Soviet-era firearms, explosives, Molotov cocktails, and the powerful PTRS-41 anti-tank rifle. Several sequences break up standard corridor shooting with train controls and set-piece travel through concealed tunnels, giving the campaign a stronger sense of place than a generic military shooter. Progression follows a straightforward story-driven structure, with scripted objectives and escalating opposition rather than open-ended exploration or modern role-playing systems.

The Soviet setting remains the game’s biggest advantage: few shooters let players battle through a fictional Stalin-era crisis while wielding equipment drawn from that period. Its weathered streets, grand monuments, and claustrophobic subterranean spaces create an atmosphere closer to a spy thriller than a conventional World War II shooter. Expect rough edges typical of its era, including dated visuals, stiff enemy behavior, and a largely linear design, but those limitations can add charm for players who miss direct, no-frills campaigns.
