The Amazing Spider-Man

Manhattan becomes a vertical playground for a newly minted hero in this film-inspired action adventure. Set after the 2012 movie’s main events, the story follows Peter Parker as a fresh outbreak of cross-species experiments and super-powered threats puts the city in danger. The tone balances comic-book spectacle with a slightly darker sci-fi mystery, giving Spider-Man familiar villains, strange new creatures, and plenty of civilian emergencies to handle. More than anything, it delivers the simple pleasure of crossing New York’s skyline at speed while chaos unfolds below.

Most of the action revolves around free-roaming traversal, street-level crime fighting, and story missions that move between laboratories, sewers, rooftops, and heavily guarded facilities. Web-slinging lets Spider-Man arc between skyscrapers, while the Web Rush system briefly slows the action and allows quick choices for reaching distant points, launching surprise attacks, or chaining acrobatic escapes. Combat mixes fast punches, web shots, aerial attacks, dodges, and counters, with stealth sections allowing Peter to pick off enemies from above rather than charging straight in. Collectibles, challenge activities, side crimes, and unlockable suit options give players reasons to keep patrolling after the campaign’s major encounters are finished.

Web Rush remains the standout idea because it makes movement and combat feel more cinematic without turning every encounter into a scripted sequence. The open city is not as dense or reactive as the later Insomniac Spider-Man games, and some missions lean heavily on repetitive brawls or corridors, but the swinging still sells the fantasy of being New York’s wall-crawling protector. Its creature-heavy enemies and continuation of the film’s plot give it a different flavor from more traditional Spider-Man stories. Fans who enjoy the older movie-game era, arcade-style superhero combat, and a lighter open-world alternative to Spider-Man 2 will find plenty to enjoy, though veterans should expect a rougher, more linear design than modern superhero blockbusters.
