A ruined research complex becomes a frantic proving ground where every corridor spits out mutated experiments, hostile machinery, and curtains of incoming fire. Soul Device is a side-scrolling action roguelike built around the fantasy of clawing your way out of a collapsing nightmare with whatever weapons and strange upgrades you can assemble. Its mood is bleak and pressured rather than purely horrific, mixing clean 2D platforming with arcade-style gunfights that demand constant movement. The objective remains refreshingly simple: survive the laboratories, overpower the creatures pursuing you, and find a path to freedom.

Runs revolve around pushing through dangerous rooms, collecting weapons, items, and equipment that gradually reshape how your character handles. You dodge volleys, block attacks, jump across hazards, and fire back while choosing tools that can improve speed, mobility, durability, damage, or defensive options. More than 40 weapons and a large pool of upgrades give each attempt room to develop differently, whether you favor aggressive close-range pressure, safer ranged attacks, or a highly mobile evasive build. Before heading out, six Soul Devices and twelve glyphs let you tailor a starting setup, while earned unlocks provide longer-term goals beyond a single successful escape.

The most interesting wrinkle is the option to revisit earlier areas for extra resources, because backtracking is never free: the unstable space behind you becomes another threat to manage. That risk-reward pressure gives exploration more weight than in a straightforward room-clearer, especially when a difficult boss waits ahead and your current build still feels incomplete. Visually and structurally, it should appeal to players who enjoy the compact combat rooms and build experimentation of roguelikes such as Dead Cells, but want heavier bullet patterns and more deliberate blocking.
