Combat plays from an overhead tactical view, but it demands constant hands-on control rather than passive unit management. You select missions on the planetary map, assign specialists, equip weapons and support gear, research new technology, and decide which regions receive scarce resources before deploying. On the ground, squads push through objectives while facing evolving threats, environmental hazards, and timed extraction points; positioning, line of sight, ammunition, healing, and coordinated abilities all matter. Classes offer distinct jobs, from heavy frontline fighters and medics to demolition experts and recon units, while persistent progression lets surviving soldiers gain useful upgrades. The full campaign works alone, but cooperative play supports up to eight players, turning difficult operations into hectic team exercises where communication is often more valuable than firepower.

Its strongest feature is the connection between grand strategy and immediate battlefield consequences. A poor decision on the campaign map can leave a team under-equipped later, while victories unlock research and keep the wider war from slipping out of control. The alien-infested industrial settings and dense interface can feel demanding at first, but the game rewards players willing to learn its systems instead of treating it like a simple action shooter. Fans of Alien Swarm, XCOM’s squad management, or the first Red Solstice will find a deeper, more ambitious successor here. It suits tactical veterans best, although patient newcomers can enjoy the campaign by starting slowly and leaning on co-op teammates.
