Ancient Egypt becomes a harsh, trap-filled battlefield where every corridor, tomb, and palace chamber can end a promising run in seconds. Pharaonic is a side-scrolling action RPG built around the deliberate tension of Souls-like combat, trading sprawling 3D ruins for a dense 2D kingdom ruled by the Red Pharaoh Ahmosis I. Its story follows a lone warrior digging through royal secrets, oppressed villages, and divine interference while trying to survive a regime that treats human lives as expendable. The mood is unforgiving but colorful, mixing stylized Egyptian art and mythological spectacle with a constant sense of danger.

Fights demand patience rather than button-mashing. Weapons, shields, armor weight, stamina, blocking, and precise parries all shape each encounter, so a quick blade-and-dodge setup plays very differently from a slower, heavily armored fighter who absorbs hits before counterattacking. Death is frequent, especially around enemy ambushes, environmental hazards, and bosses supported by dangerous minions, but learning attack patterns and managing healing from the life-water canteen steadily makes impossible-looking routes manageable. Exploration branches beyond the main path into optional rooms, treasure routes, side encounters, and hidden threats, while rescued countrymen and the Daughters of Ishtar open access to skills, blessings, and potent magical abilities.

What separates Pharaonic from many Souls-inspired indies is how successfully it adapts that measured combat language to a brisk, side-on format without turning encounters into simple platforming brawls. Its large equipment pool encourages experimentation with weapon reach, shield protection, armor load, and spell use, giving committed players room to tailor a build around caution, mobility, or raw force. The Egyptian setting also gives its bosses, enemies, and environments more personality than the usual medieval-dark-fantasy template. Fans of Salt and Sanctuary, Dark Souls, and demanding action RPGs should find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers should only jump in if they are comfortable dying, adjusting their approach, and earning progress through practice.
