Near-future Tokyo drowns beneath a poisonous supernatural downpour, its streets overrun by cybernetic soldiers and grotesque creatures born from an ancient curse. NINJA GAIDEN 4 brings the series’ famously ruthless action back with a new lead, young prodigy Yakumo, whose fate becomes entwined with legendary Dragon Ninja Ryu Hayabusa. The mood is sleek, violent, and relentlessly urgent, mixing neon cityscapes with occult horror and the kind of theatrical boss encounters that demand complete attention. It aims for spectacle, but its real identity remains a demanding character-action game built around skill.

Combat revolves around rapid weapon strings, aerial assaults, evasive movement, precise guarding, and punishing counterattacks. Yakumo uses Bloodbind Ninjutsu to alter his weapons mid-fight, opening new attack properties and explosive options against crowds or dangerous single targets, while returning techniques such as the Izuna Drop and Flying Swallow preserve the series’ aggressive spirit. Encounters reward reading enemy behavior instead of simply mashing through flashy combos, especially when tougher foes force players to manage positioning and commit to the right defensive response. Ryu is also playable, bringing a refreshed version of his familiar arsenal and letting veterans test classic ninja tools within the newer combat framework; adjustable difficulty and assist options make the campaign less forbidding for first-timers without removing its higher skill ceiling.

The major draw is the collaboration between Team NINJA’s hard-edged combat sensibilities and PlatinumGames’ talent for fluid animation, weapon transformations, and large-scale action choreography.
