A failed metal audition becomes the opening act for a grim, strange roguelite brawler where drumsticks are weapons and music corrupts reality. A lone drummer wakes to find the rejected band’s sound twisting catacombs, graveyards, and ruined churches into hostile arenas filled with possessed fans. The mood is loud, nasty, and knowingly absurd: every encounter feels like a mosh pit turned supernatural death trap, with fire, oil, lightning, and holy energy replacing any conventional instrument solo.

Combat centers on fast melee attacks, evasive movement, and using paired drumsticks to batter through crowds of corrupted enemies. Each run sends you through dangerous levels in search of lost records, then asks you to load one into a turntable at the exit and claim its power before pressing onward. Those records offer a choice of three tracks, gradually building a personalized playlist whose effects alter your attacks and survival options; one route may spread flammable oil, while another adds electric shocks or cleansing light. Death is part of the structure rather than a failure state, pushing you back into another attempt with more knowledge of enemy patterns, available powers, and effective combinations.

Its strongest idea is treating a roguelite build like a cursed metal playlist, with every newly chosen track reshaping the drummer’s combat style. Metavoidal is explicitly not a rhythm game, so success depends on positioning, reflexes, route choices, and finding synergies between elemental effects instead of matching beats. The oppressive religious imagery and underground locations give its cartoonishly violent premise a darker edge, while the record-collecting loop keeps repeated runs focused and easy to understand. Players who enjoy the rapid retries and upgrade experimentation of Hades or other action roguelites, but want a more offbeat heavy-metal theme and close-range combat, should find plenty to like here.
