An airborne plague turns nearly the entire population into a future threat, leaving the few naturally immune survivors to endure a long, uneasy countdown before the infected fully take over. Human Host is a harsh indie survival RPG built around scavenging, engineering, and holding ground against fast-moving zombie hordes. Its mood is oppressive rather than heroic: daylight offers time to prepare, while night makes every weak wall, empty magazine, and bad escape route matter. The central appeal lies in surviving through invention as much as firepower.

Players roam a procedurally assembled landscape spanning forests, deserts, ruined settlements, canyons, jungles, and frozen regions, gathering resources wherever the terrain allows. Nearly everything can be broken apart or repurposed, so buildings, trees, stone, and other environmental features become material for defenses, routes, and improvised solutions. Combat emphasizes physical interaction: armor protects the body where it is actually worn, while collisions and impacts aim to make shots and melee hits feel weighty rather than governed by a simple armor statistic. Guns, traps, and custom-built vehicles form the main survival toolkit, with mobile bases offering a way to carry security into dangerous territory; advanced builders can also use Lua scripting to refine vehicle behavior, while simpler parts-based construction remains available for everyone.

Destruction is more than visual spectacle here, because the freedom to tear down terrain and construct traveling fortresses can fundamentally change how encounters play out. Bosses and escalating nighttime attacks push players to keep upgrading instead of settling into a safe routine, and the varied biomes give long expeditions a changing sense of place. It shares some DNA with the building freedom of Scrap Mechanic and the undead pressure of 7 Days to Die, but its physics-driven armor and vehicle focus give it a more experimental identity.
