Furi is a boss-rush action game that fuses precise melee combat with twin-stick bullet hell shooting, placing a lone captive against a succession of strange, imposing jailers. Each encounter feels like a showdown in an anime western: stark arenas, cryptic conversations, explosive attacks, and an electronic soundtrack that keeps the pressure high. The mood is stylish and aggressive, but the story’s fragmented presentation gives the violence an uneasy sense of purpose.

Combat revolves around moving, aiming, shooting, slashing, parrying, and dodging with absolute intent. Jailer battles unfold across several phases, often switching between arena-wide projectile patterns and close-quarters sword exchanges where a mistimed parry can end a run. Defeats are expected, yet quick restarts and clearly telegraphed attack patterns make every failure useful; players gradually learn safe routes through bullet storms and openings for heavy damage. Health recovery, charge shots, counterattacks, and phase checkpoints prevent the challenge from becoming needlessly punishing, while tougher difficulty settings demand near-perfect command of the system.

Takashi Okazaki’s character designs give every boss a memorable silhouette and personality, from calm duelists to terrifying berserkers, while the minimal environments keep attention fixed on the fight. Its music, featuring artists such as Carpenter Brut, Danger, Lorn, and Waveshaper, is more than background noise—it drives the rhythm and identity of each confrontation. Unlike sprawling action adventures, Furi offers little filler: nearly every minute tests reflexes, positioning, and composure.
