A government-run city becomes both prison and battlefield in Firewall, an indie action game that frames rebellion as a desperate fight to reconnect, evade surveillance, and recover a captured friend. Hackers Issac, James, and Zach attempt to reach a vital connection point, only for anti-rebellion forces to turn their escape into a crisis when James disappears. The tone mixes digital-age paranoia with straightforward gunfights, placing a small crew against a system that controls the streets as tightly as it controls information.

Firewall alternates between two parallel layers of play: a computerized combat space and an “in real life” escape sequence. In the computer sections, it plays like a shooter from either first- or third-person perspective, with health management and an arsenal including pistols, automatic weapons, rifles, sniper weapons, RPGs, grenades, and mines. These missions focus on pushing through hostile forces while uncovering James’s location and deciding whether the group’s objective is personal escape or citywide liberation. Outside that digital layer, the pace changes into stealth-puzzle survival, where avoiding detection, fleeing threats, and staying out of enemy fire matter more than simply clearing every encounter. Keyboard-and-mouse and controller support let players choose the control setup that feels most natural.

Its split structure gives Firewall more variety than a conventional corridor shooter, shifting between loud firefights and vulnerable moments where running is smarter than shooting. The contrast between virtual combat and physical danger also fits the hacker-rebellion premise, even when the action remains direct and arcade-like rather than heavily simulated. Players looking for a compact, story-driven shooter with a cyberpunk-flavored resistance theme should find plenty to enjoy, especially if they like switching between combat and stealth instead of committing to only one style. Veterans should expect a smaller-scale production, while newcomers can appreciate the accessible weapons, clear stakes, and flexible viewpoint options.
