The route crosses territory controlled by the authoritarian Justice regime, with the original owners of the package in pursuit and a mismatched crew packed onto a robot-driven tour bus. Dustborn balances political tension, found-family drama, absurd action, and hopeful humor beneath its striking neo-Western surface.

Most of the journey unfolds through stops along the highway, where Pax investigates locations, talks to locals, accepts side jobs, and decides how to handle escalating trouble. Conversations matter because Pax uses Vox to influence people, while crafted Shouts function as combat abilities that can disrupt enemies and alter confrontations. Physical action is deliberately scrappy rather than military-minded: expect brawling with a bat, chaotic escapes, motorcycle stunts, and improvised weapons such as Molotov cocktails.
