Corporate greed and mutant magic collide in a loud, colorful fantasy brawler built for players who miss the chaotic energy of arcade beat-’em-ups. Dungeon Punks pairs side-scrolling combat with RPG progression, sending a ragtag crew through a strange realm where spells, monsters, and industrial exploitation all share the screen. The tone is deliberately over-the-top rather than grim, with laser-firing unicorns, baby dragons, and plenty of cartoonish violence breaking up the adventure. It plays equally well as a solo quest or a couch co-op excuse to turn every encounter into a magical pileup.

Combat revolves around fast melee strings, special abilities, and a tag system that lets one player control a two-character team. Swapping fighters during a battle opens up custom combo opportunities, while six recruitable heroes bring their own movesets and skills to the roster. Loot adds RPG flavor beyond simple damage upgrades, with magical equipment capable of burning, shocking, or inflicting sickness on enemies. Across twelve distinct zones, players fight regular mobs, tackle major bosses, collect summons, ride unusual beasts, and gradually build stronger loadouts; New Game Plus offers a tougher rerun for groups that master the campaign.

Its best idea is the fusion of classic lane-based brawling and versus-fighter-style team mechanics, making positioning and character choice matter more than in a typical button-masher. Four-player local co-op supplies the main attraction, but eleven PvP arenas also let friends settle arguments in direct battles. The hand-drawn fantasy presentation and absurd creature designs give the world its own personality, even when the structure recalls Golden Axe and other old-school coin-op adventures. Fans of Castle Crashers, Golden Axe, or Marvel vs. Capcom-style switching mechanics should find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers get an accessible, energetic cooperative RPG with enough systems to reward repeat runs.
