Cyberpunk 2077 casts you as V, a mercenary caught up in a desperate struggle for survival after acquiring an experimental biochip linked to rebellious rock legend Johnny Silverhand. Its first-person action-RPG structure combines corporate conspiracy, street-level crime, body-horror technology, and surprisingly intimate character drama. The mood is stylish and grim, but the city’s absurd advertisements, eccentric fixers, and dark humor keep it from becoming relentlessly bleak.

Most of the time, you take jobs across distinct city districts, follow major story missions, and hunt down side cases that often develop into full character arcs rather than simple errands. V can specialize in rifles, pistols, blades, blunt weapons, stealth, or quickhacks that blind cameras, hijack vehicles, spread malware, and make enemies turn their guns on themselves. Cyberware upgrades reshape combat dramatically, letting agile builds dash through gunfire, tough characters absorb punishment, and elite netrunners dismantle guarded compounds from cover. Dialogue choices, life-path flavor, and mission decisions influence relationships and certain conclusions, while the difficulty settings make room for players who want either a cinematic tour or demanding shootouts.

What separates it from many open-world RPGs is the density of its authored quests and the strength of its cast, especially when a seemingly minor gig opens into a personal story with no clean answer. Night City is not merely a backdrop: its vertical streets, rain-soaked markets, luxury towers, and decaying industrial zones sell the fantasy of living inside a futuristic nightmare. The modernized progression and combat systems reward experimentation far more than a single “correct” build, even if the world is less sandbox-driven than a Grand Theft Auto city. Fans of Deus Ex, The Witcher 3, or story-heavy sci-fi shooters find plenty to enjoy, while newcomers should expect a dialogue-rich RPG first and an action spectacle second.
